How popovers are about to become a whole lot easier to build

Our design systems commonly feature components that show on top of other content: tooltips, date pickers, menus and teaching UI, to name just a few. Proposed web platform features are about to make building these “popovers” a whole lot easier. You might not even need JavaScript. In this talk, you’ll learn all about the upcoming ‘popover’ attribute, when to use modality and access to the top layer.

Hidde (@hdv) is a freelance front-end and accessibility specialist, currently working in the NL Design System team at the Dutch government. At the W3C, he participates in the W3C’s Open UI Community Group and is an Invited Expert at the CSS Working Group.

Hidde is a generalist with over a decade of experience building websites. His focus has been mostly on end users: web accessibility, performance and usability.
