A 3D Mapping Journey through the Web

Maps are awesome! They show us how to get to places, they help to discover patterns in spatial data, they help tell a story by giving it a spatial context, some maps are simply works of arts and sometimes even end up being admired in museums. Users often relate but also memorize information better when associated with location. Most of the web maps we see nowadays are two dimensional even though consuming 3D spatial applications on the web is easier than ever as modern web frameworks do most of the heavy lifting for you. 3D maps are also accessible to everyone as they can be run on a mobile phone. In this talk I’ll show you how we create beautiful 3D web mapping experiences: be it for urban planning, data journalism, artistic 3D visualizations or just to show off that awesome hike during the weekend. The talk is equally directed towards designers and developers, showing steps of the creation process together with JavaScript code examples.
